Anambra State Investigates Civil Servants for Absenteeism

Following an unscheduled visit by Governor Chukwuma Soludo to the Anambra State Secretariat on March 26, it was discovered that 90% of the workforce was absent from their duties. In response, the Anambra State Government has initiated a probe into civil servants for lateness and absenteeism.

A special disciplinary committee, chaired by Nkiru Nwankwo, the Permanent Secretary of the Office of Head of Service, has been constituted to examine the allegations. Nwankwo emphasized that lateness and absenteeism violate public service rules and breach employment contracts.

She warned that offenses would be punished according to these rules and urged workers to provide genuine reasons for their absences. Chuma Uwolloh, a member of the committee, stressed the importance of responsibility among workers.

Additionally, Chinyer Nwabachili and Jerom Ilokwu cautioned workers to prioritize official duties over personal business. The committee aims to ensure compliance with public service rules and will intensify unscheduled visits to various ministries and agencies.
