Anambra State Investigates Civil Servants for Absenteeism

The Anambra State Government has initiated an investigation into civil servants regarding lateness and absenteeism after Governor Chukwuma Soludo's unscheduled visit to the state secretariat on March 26, 2023, where it was discovered that 90% of the workforce was absent from their duties. A special disciplinary committee, chaired by Nkiru Nwankwo, the permanent secretary of the office of the head of service, has been constituted to examine several workers accused of violating public service rules.

Nwankwo stated that lateness and absenteeism constitute a breach of employment terms and warned that such offenses would be punished according to the rules. She advised workers to provide genuine reasons for their absences and to follow proper notification procedures.

Chuma Uwolloh, a member of the committee, urged workers to take the situation seriously, while Chinyer Nwabachili and Jerom Ilokwu cautioned against prioritizing personal business over official duties. The committee aims to ensure compliance with public service rules and improve workforce efficiency.
