Anambra Activates Oil Communities Commission for Development

Anambra State has established the Oil-Producing Communities Commission (ANSOPADEC) to accelerate infrastructure development and governance in oil-producing communities. Charles Ofoegbu, the Commissioner for Petroleum and Mineral Resources, announced this during a meeting with stakeholders from Ogbaru Local Government Area in Awka.

He was accompanied by the Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Nomso Ebonwu. The initiative aligns with the commission's founding law and reflects the Soludo administration's commitment to ensuring that oil-producing communities benefit from resource-driven development.

Ofoegbu revealed that the Anambra State Executive Council approved the construction of a road connecting Atani and Umuezerabia, where several oil wells are located. Additionally, a primary healthcare center and a school will be established in Umuezerabia, with procurement processes already advanced.

He urged Ogbaru stakeholders to submit their priority needs to the state government. The traditional ruler of Ossomala Community, represented by Honourable Emmanuel Ifeachor, praised the government's engagement with host communities and called for increased investment in infrastructure and security.
