Anambra State Launches 2027 Budget Preparation Process

Anambra State has officially commenced the 2027 budget preparation cycle, prioritizing people-centered development. The inauguration took place at the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning in Awka, led by Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Mr Chukwukadibia Okoye.

He urged the committee to create a framework that reflects the needs of residents, emphasizing merit-based selection of members. Okoye stressed the importance of evidence-based projects, realistic projections, and improved coordination among Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).

He warned against inflated proposals and project duplication, highlighting the need to complete ongoing projects and enhance internally generated revenue. Permanent Secretary, Mrs Chinyere Nwabachili, encouraged innovation and active participation, unveiling the 2027 budget calendar, which includes community submissions and stakeholder consultations.

Dr Christy Akabuo, Head of Budget, noted the significance of bilateral sessions in aligning government spending with development priorities. Prince Chris Azor, Chairman of ACSONet, reaffirmed civil society's commitment to an inclusive budgeting process.
