Anambra State Launches Public Land Reclamation Effort

Anambra State has commenced the reclamation of public land as part of efforts to restore its original master plan and enforce physical planning regulations. This initiative, which began in Ogbunik, Oyi Local Government Area, is overseen by the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development, with Chijiok Ojukwu leading the enforcement drive.

Governor Prof. Chukwuma Soludo has emphasized the state's commitment to eliminating unauthorized structures and restoring order to enhance the environment and promote sustainable urban growth.

The operation includes the issuance of demolition notices to property owners who have violated planning regulations, with a 14-day deadline for compliance. The enforcement team has already addressed issues in Nnewi and Ogbunik, focusing on structures that fail to meet the required setbacks from road corridors and drainage channels.

The initiative has sparked anxiety among market traders, particularly at Oy Agu Market in Abagana, where some structures have been deemed non-compliant with the original layout.
