INEC to Publish Presidential Candidates' Details Tomorrow

Anxiety has arisen among presidential and federal legislative candidates from various political parties as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is set to publish the personal particulars of these candidates on August 1, 2026. This development follows reports of candidate substitutions within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Affected members have reportedly contacted the leadership of these parties regarding their cases. The commission's timeline mandates that political parties submit nominations for presidential and National Assembly candidates from June 27 to July 11, 2026.

Political parties ceased uploading names and personal particulars after a 72-hour extension of the deadline on July 14. According to Section 29(1) of the Electoral Act, forms EC9 (personal particulars of candidates) and related forms must be submitted no later than 120 days before the election.

When asked about a possible extension for the publication date, INEC Deputy Director of Publicity, Wilfred Osilama Ifogah, expressed doubt that the deadline would change.
