Reps Criticize Defence Minister's Role in APC Campaign

A bipartisan group of members from the House of Representatives, known as the Save Democracy Group, has expressed concerns regarding the inclusion of the Minister of Defence, Gen Chris Musa, the Director-General of the Budget Office of the Federation, Tanimu Yakubu Kurfi, and the chairman of the National Revenue Service, Zacheus Adedeji, in the APC Presidential Campaign Council. In a statement issued in Abuja, the group emphasized the need for a clear distinction between government machinery and political party activities.

They raised alarms about the potential politicization of the national defence establishment due to the involvement of the Defence Ministers, arguing that their participation creates an unacceptable appearance of partisanship. Additionally, the group highlighted concerns over the inclusion of the Budget Office DG in the campaign's fundraising efforts, which they believe raises fundamental questions of conflict of interest.

They called on the President and Defence Ministers to ensure that political activities do not compromise the neutrality of the Armed Forces.
