Lawmakers Critique APC Campaign Council Composition

Lawmakers under the Save Democracy Group, a bipartisan platform from the 10th House of Representatives, expressed serious concerns regarding the composition of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council for the 2027 presidential election. In a statement issued on Tuesday, the group, led by Hon. Awaji-Inombek Abiante (NDC, Rivers), Hon. Abubakar Kusada (APC, Katsina), and Hon. Mansur Jega (ADC, Kebbi), criticized the inclusion of the Ministers of Defence, stating that their roles create an unacceptable appearance of politicization within the national defence establishment.

The lawmakers emphasized that while political participation is a right, the defence leadership must remain politically neutral, especially given Nigeria's ongoing security challenges. They also raised concerns about Zacch Adedeji, the chief tax authority, being included in the campaign structure, citing potential conflicts of interest.

The group called on the President and Defence Ministers to ensure that political activities do not compromise the professionalism of the Armed Forces.
