APC Initiates Reconciliation Ahead of 2027 Elections

Ahead of the 2027 elections, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has launched reconciliation efforts across at least 10 states due to tensions arising from court cases, defections, and factional disputes following the party’s governorship and legislative primaries in May 2026. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) published the official list of governorship candidates and running mates on August 29, 2026, which intensified grievances among aspirants who lost in the primaries.

APC Director of Publicity Bala Ibrahim confirmed that the National Working Committee has held multiple sessions to address these complaints and established committees at various levels to engage dissatisfied members. In Gombe, Governor Muhammadu Yahaya inaugurated a 25-member reconciliation committee led by Deputy Governor Manassah Jatau.

The party faces litigation in Yobe, where aspirant Mustapha Maihaja is contesting the primary results. Additionally, in Benue, a suit filed by aspirant Sesugh Kaaba regarding candidate substitutions is scheduled for judgment on October 12.

The political landscape is further complicated by defections and allegations of candidate imposition across several states.
