APC Detains El-Rufai to Weaken Opposition Ahead of 2027

Bolaji Abdullahi, the spokesman for the African Democratic Congress (ADC), stated that the All Progressives Congress (APC) is holding former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai in custody to weaken the opposition in anticipation of the 2027 general elections. Speaking on Channel Television, Abdullahi argued that the conditions for El-Rufai's bail are excessively difficult, raising concerns about the legitimacy of the charges against him.

He emphasized that the ADC does not oppose any legitimate case but believes that the APC intends to keep El-Rufai detained until the elections to prevent him from strengthening the opposition. Abdullahi also expressed worries about El-Rufai's health, stating that he requires proper medical care.

He warned that if anything were to happen to El-Rufai during his detention, President Bola Tinubu would be held responsible. El-Rufai currently faces charges of alleged financial misconduct during his tenure as governor, with separate allegations related to wiretapping being filed by the ICPC and DSS.
