APC Faces Legal Challenge Over Primary Elections in Ondo

A fresh crisis has emerged within the All Progressives Congress (APC) as loyalists of Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa have initiated legal action against the party and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). The lawsuit challenges the conduct of the primary elections and the candidate list submitted for the forthcoming elections.

Senior lawyer Remi Olatubora, SAN, is representing the plaintiffs, who include notable figures such as Gbenga Elegbeleye and Taiwo Fasoranti, contesting various senatorial and federal constituency tickets. The plaintiffs seek the court's intervention to prevent APC from substituting candidates, alleging that the nominations were improperly handled.

This legal challenge is believed to stem from dissatisfaction among aspirants regarding the governor's influence over the party's ticket allocation. Concerns have been raised about the potential for prolonged litigation to weaken the APC's internal cohesion ahead of the 2027 elections.
