APC Intervenes in Ondo Assembly Speaker's Impeachment Crisis

The impeachment proceedings against Olamide Oladiji, the Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly, have been temporarily stalled following intervention from the All Progressives Congress (APC). A meeting held on Friday involved APC leaders and lawmakers, where the party urged all parties to maintain peace and the status quo while mediation efforts continue.

A source disclosed that the APC is concerned about the potential implications of a prolonged crisis in the Assembly, especially with the 2027 general elections approaching. Lawmakers advocating for Oladiji's impeachment were advised to refrain from further actions pending the outcome of the mediation.

The allegations against Oladiji include financial misconduct and abuse of office, particularly regarding a disputed N44 million transaction related to the 2026 budget of the Ondo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (OSOPADEC). Oladiji has denied these allegations, claiming they are politically motivated.

The impeachment notice was initially signed by 21 lawmakers, later increasing to 24, indicating a significant division within the Assembly.
