Ondo Assembly Speaker Denies Resignation Amid Impeachment

Rt. Hon. Olamide Oladiji, the Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly, has dismissed reports suggesting he plans to resign amid a growing impeachment threat from some lawmakers.

He also denied allegations of financial misconduct linked to the Ondo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (OSOPADEC). In a statement from his office, Oladiji asserted that claims of a leadership crisis within the Assembly were fabricated and politically motivated.

He emphasized that he never contemplated resigning and that there is no crisis within the 10th Ondo State House of Assembly. The controversy reportedly began after Hon. Olawumi Fayemi-Obayelu accused the Assembly leadership of irregularities regarding the OSOPADEC 2025 budget, claiming procedural violations occurred.

Fayemi-Obayelu alleged that a disputed House resolution was improperly used to adjust the budget and that many lawmakers were absent during the session when the resolution was purportedly passed. She claimed that dissatisfaction over the budget handling led to efforts to change the Assembly's leadership.
