APC Slams Governor Makinde Over APM Rally at Stadium

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State condemned the political rally organized by the ruling Allied People’s Movement (APM) at Lekan Salami Stadium in Ibadan, labeling it as “shameful.” In a statement issued by the APC's publicity secretary, Comrade Olawale Sadare, the party accused Governor Makinde's administration of insensitivity to public concerns and criticized the alleged coercion of residents, including traders and commercial motorists, to attend the rally. The APC highlighted the significant financial burden of the event, claiming it cost billions of naira from the state treasury.

They questioned the justification for the reported N5.5 billion spent on rehabilitating the Adamasingba Stadium, which was recently rejected by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) for matches. The rally took place while many soccer fans were mourning the exit of the Shooting Stars Sports Club from the Confederation Cup, which experts attributed to the poor condition of the Ibadan stadium.
