APM Terminals to Launch 24-Hour Barge Operations by 2026

APM Terminals, Nigeria’s largest container terminal, announced plans to commence 24-hour barge operations at its dedicated Finger Jetty in Apapa by the final quarter of 2026. This initiative is part of efforts to address persistent bottlenecks in the country’s export logistics chain, which includes a significant increase in rail evacuation.

Kayode Olufemi-Daniel, head of commercial at APM Terminals Apapa, stated that the company aims to identify pain points in the export process and develop an action plan to enhance export flow. The expansion will facilitate the movement of both incoming and outgoing containers, enabling customers to transport export cargo into the terminal, evacuate imports, and manage empty containers around the clock.

Olufemi-Daniel noted that this development increases the terminal's capacity to handle more barges compared to previous operations, which were limited to the main quay. Additionally, APM Terminals is strengthening communication with shipping lines, exporters, importers, and regulatory agencies to improve cargo visibility and streamline operations.
