Appeal Court Reinstates Gummi as Lawmaker in Abuja

On October 30, 2025, the Appeal Court in Abuja reinstated Gummi as a member of the House of Representatives, setting aside a Federal High Court judgment that had declared his seat vacant. The earlier ruling, delivered by Justice Obiora Egwuatu, stated that Gummi lost his seat after defecting from the People's Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The Appeal Court, led by Justice Oyebiola Oyewumi, justified its decision by citing the leadership crisis within the PDP, which made it challenging for Gummi to effectively represent his constituency. The court emphasized that political office holders have the right to seek a stable platform when their party's structure is threatened.

Consequently, the Appeal Court allowed Gummi's appeal, marking it as CA/ABJ/CV/1606/2025, and awarded costs of N1 million against the PDP in favor of Jamilu Jibomagayaki.
