TikToker Cleansed After Filming Oloolu Masquerade Procession

A yet-to-be-identified female TikTok user narrowly escaped death after allegedly recording a procession related to the annual Oloolu Masquerade Festival in Ibadan, Oyo State. Chief Adeola Oloko, spokesperson for the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, clarified that the woman filmed Alawo Oloolu, not the sacred Oloolu masquerade itself.

After posting the footage, she experienced unusual health challenges, prompting her family to contact the traditional custodians for assistance. Oloko stated that the woman mistook Alawo for the real Oloolu and emphasized that women are traditionally prohibited from seeing Oloolu.

Videos showed her undergoing traditional cleansing rites, including head shaving and rituals involving giant African snails and a ram. Ayo Adams, an Ibadan-based content creator, reported that the woman was alive and recovering after being taken to the Oloolu compound for necessary rites.

The incident has sparked widespread debate on social media regarding her actions and the subsequent traditional response.
