Soldier Arrested for ₦114 Million Fraud Scheme

Staff Sergeant Amok Simon of the Nigerian Army was apprehended at Port Harcourt International Airport while allegedly attempting to flee to Abuja. He is accused of defrauding the Abia State government of ₦114 million by falsely presenting himself as a participant in a 2010 military operation that led to the elimination of notorious kidnapper Obioma Nwankwo, also known as Osisikankwu.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Simon misrepresented his involvement in the operation, which resulted in the rescue of ten kidnapping victims and the recovery of arms and ammunition. Sources indicate that he sought financial assistance from unsuspecting victims under false pretenses, claiming injuries sustained during unauthorized movements.

The investigation, led by the 14 Brigade Provost Group, is ongoing, with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) also involved due to Simon's alleged multiple fraudulent activities targeting individuals and organizations.
