Soldier Arrested for N114 Million Fraud in Nigeria

Staff Sgt. Amok Simon of the Nigerian Army was apprehended at Port Harcourt International Airport while attempting to flee to Abuja.

He is accused of large-scale fraud amounting to N114 million, falsely claiming involvement in the military operation that eliminated notorious kidnap kingpin Obioma Nwankwo, known as 'Osisikankwu.' Preliminary investigations revealed that Simon allegedly defrauded the Abia State government by presenting false claims regarding a 2010 operation, which purportedly earned him official recognition and promised support, including medical assistance. The investigation, led by a joint troop from the 14 Brigade and 6 Division Provost Group, uncovered that Simon had defrauded individuals and companies, obtaining N100 million and N6 million from individuals under false pretenses.

Military sources clarified that Simon did not participate in the operation against Nwankwo and expressed concerns over his misrepresentation of military activities. The Nigerian Army is currently conducting a thorough investigation and will initiate appropriate disciplinary procedures.
