Army Arrests Kidnap Commander, Recovers Weapons in Enugu

Troops of the 82 Division/Joint Task Force South East, in collaboration with the Department of State Services, arrested a suspected commander of a kidnapping syndicate in Enugu State. The operation, which took place in the Gariki General Area, was intelligence-led and aimed at dismantling a criminal network linked to the abduction of two individuals in Udi Local Government Area on August 2, 2026.

The suspect's arrest followed an earlier operation where one member of the syndicate was neutralized and another apprehended. Intelligence from the arrested suspect led to the identification of the fleeing commander and the location of concealed arms.

During the operation, troops recovered four AK-47 rifles, seven magazines, and 133 rounds of ammunition from a forest hideout. Additionally, US$1,000 and N785,900 in cash were seized.

The suspect is undergoing further interrogation to assist in apprehending other members of the criminal network. The operation underscores the effectiveness of intelligence-led operations in combating organized crime in the region.
