Nigerian Army Investigates Captain for Alleged Abuse

The Nigerian Army has initiated an investigation into allegations of sexual abuse involving Captain Etim Essien, who is currently serving at Headquarters 3 Division in Jos. The allegations pertain to the repeated sexual abuse of a 13-year-old victim, who is reportedly deaf and non-speaking, while in the care of Captain Essien and his family in Taraba State.

The Taraba State Ministry of Women Affairs and Child Development and the National Human Rights Commission are also investigating the matter and have requested the Army to take appropriate administrative and disciplinary action against the officer. Lieutenant Colonel Olumide Olukoya, the Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, stated that the Army takes such allegations seriously and is committed to due process and the protection of all parties' rights.

The Army will cooperate fully with civil authorities to ensure a thorough investigation. The public is urged to avoid speculation and unverified information that could compromise the investigation.
