Army Rescues Retired General’s Wife After Abuja Abduction

Mrs. Adonkie, the wife of retired Brig. Gen. Basil Adonkie, was abducted from her residence in Abuja at approximately 10:30 PM on September 1. Following her abduction, troops from the Guards Brigade and Army Headquarters Garrison were deployed for a coordinated pursuit of the kidnappers.

The troops made contact with the kidnappers and successfully rescued Mrs. Adonkie around Angwan-Sabo Village. On September 6, at about 11:09 AM, troops from the 176 Guards Battalion and 197 Special Forces Battalion intercepted two fleeing suspects in Gaube Village, Kuje Area Council, recovering an AK-47 rifle and a magazine containing 19 rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition.

Mrs. Adonkie has since been reunited with her family, while the two suspects remain in custody for profiling. The Guards Brigade has intensified operations to track down other members of the kidnap syndicate, maintaining high morale and fighting efficiency among the troops.
