Sowore Challenges Tinubu to Arrest Atiku Over Remarks

Omoyele Sowore, the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) for the 2027 general election, has publicly challenged President Bola Tinubu to arrest former Vice President Atiku Abubakar for labeling him a “forger” and “drug baron.” This statement was made on Monday following court proceedings in Abuja, where Sowore dismissed suggestions that he could evade legal troubles by apologizing to Tinubu. He asserted that it is Tinubu who owes an apology to Nigerians for seeking public office despite alleged unworthiness.

Sowore referred to previous criticisms of Tinubu, emphasizing that others have made similar allegations without facing prosecution. The legal case against Sowore stems from social media posts made in August 2025, where he described Tinubu as a “criminal.” The Federal Government has charged him under the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Amendment Act, 2024, and the Criminal Code for cyberstalking, criminal defamation, and spreading false information.

Sowore pleaded not guilty, maintaining that his remarks were protected political speech.
