Leadership Crisis Erupts in Ondo State Assembly

The Ondo State House of Assembly is currently experiencing a significant leadership crisis, primarily involving Speaker Hon Olamide Oladiji. This turmoil arose from allegations regarding the handling of N44 million released by the Ondo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (OSOPADEC).

Lawmakers have accused Oladiji of financial impropriety, lack of transparency, and failing to involve other members in the disbursement of these funds. The crisis may also affect Deputy Speaker Hon Ololade Gbegudu and Clerk of the House Benjamin Jaiyeola, with potential redeployment being discussed to restore stability.

Reports indicate that Oladiji contemplated resigning but was persuaded to remain in office due to political intervention. He has categorically dismissed the allegations as “sensationalised, malicious and entirely fabricated,” asserting that he never considered resigning and that lawmakers manage their own welfare and resource allocations independently.
