Ondo Lawmakers Demand Speaker's Resignation Amid Crisis

On Monday, the Ondo State House of Assembly suspended plenary sessions, insisting on the resignation of Speaker Rt. Hon.

Olatunji Fabiyi, the Assembly's spokesperson, stated that the majority of lawmakers support the Speaker's removal due to allegations of his unilateral reordering of the Ondo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (OSOPADEC) 2025 budget, which is estimated at N9.2 billion. Currently, 21 out of 26 members have signed a resolution to impeach Oladiji if he refuses to step down.

Fabiyi did not specify when the House would reconvene and mentioned he was unaware of any meetings between lawmakers and the state executive to resolve the situation. He confirmed that allegations of an assassination plot against a member of the Assembly have been reported to security agencies for investigation.

Fabiyi emphasized that plenary sessions will not resume until there is a change in leadership, stating, “If he doesn’t resign, we will impeach him.”.
