Ondo Lawmakers Accuse Governor of Impeding Impeachment

The Ondo State House of Assembly is facing a crisis as 21 of its 26 members signed an impeachment notice against Speaker Olamide Oladiji, accusing him of diverting N44 million intended for the budget reordering of the Ondo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission. The lawmakers have demanded that Oladiji resign by Sunday, July 2, or face impeachment.

Oladiji has denied the allegations. Olatunji Fabiyi, Chairman of the House Committee on Information, stated that the impeachment process has been hindered by what he termed undue interference from Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa.

Fabiyi expressed concerns that the governor may be pressuring some members to withdraw their support for the impeachment. He emphasized that the matter is a private affair of the House and should not involve the executive arm of government.

The Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Ebenezer Adeniyan, defended Aiyedatiwa, claiming he had no involvement in the situation.
