NGF Launches Inaugural Oba Saheed Elegushi Golf Championship

The Nigeria Golf Federation (NGF) has announced the inaugural Oba Saheed Elegushi Open Golf Championship, named in honor of His Royal Highness Oba Saheed Elegushi, the Elegushi of Ikate-Elegushi. This tournament was unveiled during the second NGF Stakeholders and Golfers Summit held in Abuja, which gathered representatives from over 46 golf clubs across Nigeria.

The summit's theme, “Finding the Fairway: Sustainable Growth and Youth Development,” addressed critical issues such as infrastructure, investment, and the exposure of young Nigerian talent in golf. NGF President Otunba Olusegun Runsewe described the championship as a new competitive platform aimed at providing emerging players with experiences that can lead to international recognition.

Oba Elegushi, who has been a chief patron of the federation, expressed his support for the championship and advocated for the development of golf facilities in Nigeria to international standards. He emphasized that such investments could create jobs and enhance sports tourism.

The monarch pledged ongoing support for the championship, hoping it will become a prestigious fixture in Nigeria’s golfing calendar.
