Obaigbena Urges Policy Focus for 2027 Nigerian Elections

Nduka Obaigbena, the Chairman of THISDAY and Arise Media Group, called on Nigerian political leaders to prioritize policy discussions over personal rivalries as the nation prepares for the 2027 general elections. Speaking at the centenary celebration of the Daily Times of Nigeria at the THISDAY DOME in Abuja, Obaigbena challenged the political class to engage in a contest of ideas, asking critical questions about national issues such as subsidy, exchange rates, tax reforms, insecurity, and the potential for state police.

He expressed concern over the historical tendency of Nigerian elections to devolve into personality contests, often overshadowing substantive policy discussions. Obaigbena cautioned against smear campaigns and urged leaders to focus on presenting viable alternatives to address poverty and hardship in Nigeria.

His remarks underscore the urgent need for a shift in the political narrative as the country approaches another electoral cycle.
