Asharami Ghana Launches LPG Carrier to Boost Clean Cooking

Asharami Ghana, part of Sahara Group, has launched a 40,000 cubic meter dual fuel LPG carrier in Ulsan, South Korea, marking a significant step towards improving clean cooking fuel access in Ghana, which has a population of over 35 million. The vessel was inaugurated by Ghana's former President John Mahama, who praised Sahara Group's commitment to sustainable energy solutions.

The initiative aims to increase the adoption of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) from the current 30% to 50% by 2030, aligning with Ghana's energy and public health agenda. The investment in LPG infrastructure is crucial for reducing reliance on traditional fuels and improving health outcomes.

The carrier is designed to meet stringent global environmental standards and will enhance the reliability of LPG supply across the country, addressing logistical bottlenecks and ensuring that households and businesses have consistent access to clean cooking fuel. The project includes the development of a 6,000 metric ton LPG storage terminal in Tema, scheduled for completion in the second quarter of 2026.
