Shettima Urges Leaders to Build Lasting Legacies

At the book launch titled "Brigadier Musa Usman (1940–1991): Service and Impact," Vice President Kashim Shettima, represented by his special adviser on Special Duties, Aliyu Modibbo, called on Nigerian leaders to create institutions and policies that endure beyond their tenures. Shettima noted that Brigadier Musa Usman, who served as the pioneer military governor of the former North-Eastern state at just 27 years old, left a significant legacy, particularly visible in Maiduguri through the Musa Usman Secretariat.

He stated that true leadership is measured by the lasting impact on society and the institutions established. Former National Security Adviser Babagana Monguno also spoke on Usman's contributions, emphasizing their relevance over five decades.

He described the vast territory Usman governed, which now comprises Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Taraba, and Yobe states, and noted that his enduring monuments were not maintained by his successors.
