ATBU Female Students Demand Better Security After Robbery

On Monday, female students of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University in Bauchi staged a peaceful protest in response to an armed robbery that occurred in their hostel early Sunday morning. The attackers reportedly broke into several rooms around 2 a.m., stealing valuables, including approximately 20 mobile phones.

Victim Fauziyya Abdullahi expressed fears of further attacks, stating, “We do not want to be another Chibok girls,” emphasizing the need for immediate security improvements. Another victim, Rejoice Duke, recounted the traumatic experience of the invasion.

In response, the Vice-Chancellor and university management visited the scene, with Zailani Bappah, Head of the Directorate of Information, assuring students that security measures would be strengthened. Nafiu Habib, Public Relations Officer of the Bauchi State Police Command, confirmed that an investigation was underway to identify and apprehend the robbers, noting that eight rooms were burgled during the incident.
