Armed Robbers Attack ATBU Female Hostel in Bauchi

In the early hours of Monday, armed hoodlums invaded the female hostel of the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU), Gubi Campus, Bauchi, at approximately 2 am. The attackers, armed with machetes and knives, forced their way into more than 10 rooms, robbing students of over 50 mobile phones and other valuables.

Some victims were injured during the incident, with one student sustaining serious injuries after resisting the theft of her mobile phone. The incident has raised significant concerns regarding security among students, particularly due to the campus's proximity to nearby villages and dense bushes.

Zailani Bappa, the university’s Director of Information and Public Relations, confirmed the incident, stating that Vice-Chancellor Prof. Ibrahim Hassan Garba visited the hostel to express sympathy and reassure students of the management's commitment to their safety.

The police have been notified, deployed personnel to the campus, and initiated an investigation. The incident has sparked discussions within the university community and on social media, with calls for improved security and the prosecution of the assailants.
