Atiku Abubakar Condemns Kidney Sales Among Youth

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has expressed concern over the increasing trend of young Nigerians selling their kidneys as a means of survival amid the ongoing cost-of-living crisis. In a post on X on Thursday, he attributed this alarming development to the economic policies of President Bola Tinubu.

Atiku reported hearing "disturbing stories" of young people resorting to selling body organs, particularly kidneys, for as little as ₦1.7 million, a figure he did not verify. He criticized the rising costs of essential items such as food, transport, rent, school fees, medicine, and electricity under Tinubu's administration, stating that these conditions have driven youth to view their kidneys as emergency savings.

While acknowledging existing laws against commercial organ sales, Atiku argued that legislation alone cannot address the underlying poverty and desperation. He called for economic reforms that prioritize affordable living conditions and expressed his commitment to making Nigeria affordable again, contrasting his vision with the current administration's policies.
