Atiku Abubakar Demands Release of Arrested Protesters

Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the former Vice President and presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has demanded the immediate release of five Nigerians arrested in Borno State for wearing T-shirts that read “Tinubu Must Go.” In a statement made on Wednesday through Phrank Shaibu, the Director of Strategic Communication of the ADC Presidential Campaign Council, Atiku questioned how wearing a political slogan could be deemed an offense. He referenced President Bola Tinubu's past participation in protests against fuel price increases during former President Goodluck Jonathan's administration, asserting that Nigerians should have the right to express their views on current economic issues.

Atiku characterized the slogan “Tinubu Must Go” as a call for political change rather than a criminal act. He urged authorities to reveal the detainees' locations, allow them access to their families and legal representation, and release them if their arrest was solely based on the slogan.

Atiku emphasized that citizens should be free to voice their concerns about government policies.
