TRCN Launches Program to License 250,000 Unqualified Teachers
The Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) is backing the Federal Government’s Accelerated Teacher Professionalisation Pathway (ATPP), which aims to provide a licensing route for more than 250,000 unqualified teachers in Nigeria. The ATPP will be conducted in cohorts and is designed to equip untrained teachers in both public and private schools with essential skills and certification.
Candidates who pass the ATPP examination will be eligible to take the Professional Qualifying Examination (PQE) organized by TRCN. The initiative is led by Minister of Education Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa and coordinated by a Technical Working Group chaired by Prof. Suwaiba Ahmad.
The program will engage about 250,000 teachers and is supported by various educational agencies. The ATPP offers two routes: a Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) for graduates in non-education disciplines and a Professional Diploma in Education (PDE) for those with National Diplomas.
The program includes four months of blended learning and two months of supervised teaching practice.
