ASRTI Demands Urgent Payment for Nigeria Airways Workers

The Aviation Safety Round Table Initiative (ASRTI), led by President Ademola Onitiju, has expressed deep concern over the prolonged delay in the payment of entitlements to over 4,000 former staff of the defunct Nigeria Airways Limited. In a statement, Onitiju described the bureaucratic red tape faced by these workers as a grave injustice, emphasizing that Nigeria Airways was a national carrier and a symbol of sovereignty.

He noted that since the airline's liquidation in April 2003, the affected individuals have suffered over two decades of neglect, leading to tragic health complications and deaths among elderly beneficiaries. Onitiju referenced a December 2025 announcement by Olorogun Festus Keyamo, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, stating that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had approved the payments and forwarded the matter to the Ministry of Finance.

He urged the Minister to collaborate with the Ministry of Finance to expedite these payments and hold accountable those responsible for the delays.
