Adeleke Campaigners Urge INEC for Transparent Elections

Campaigners for Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke have called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to avoid the pitfalls experienced in recent off-cycle elections. During a press conference in Osogbo, Lere Oyewumi, the Director General of the Adeleke Campaign Council, raised concerns about potential voter disenfranchisement and the distribution of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).

Oyewumi alleged that during the off-cycle elections in Ogun, Oyo, Jigawa, and Ekiti states, there were instances of suspected mercenaries manipulating the voting process and insufficient ballot papers being deployed. He emphasized the need for transparency in the electoral process, warning that withholding PVCs would disenfranchise voters in Osun.

The campaigners demanded that INEC treat these concerns seriously and implement necessary measures to ensure a credible election. The Osun gubernatorial election is scheduled for August 15, with fourteen political parties fielding candidates, including incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke and former Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority, Bola Oyebamiji.
