Osun Election: Adeleke's Support for Tinubu Amid Spending

The Osun governorship election held on August 15 featured substantial financial expenditures, with credible sources indicating that the All Progressives Congress (APC) may have spent nearly ₦40 billion, largely funded by contributions from 20 governors and at least 50 National Assembly members. The Accord Party also aimed to match this spending, with Afrobeats artist Davido allegedly supporting his uncle with ₦10 billion.

Despite the financial influx, the local economy has not collapsed, raising questions about the role of civil servants and the impact of defections from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Governor Ademola Adeleke, who was reelected, continues to back President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the January 2027 general elections.

The civil service in Osun has faced challenges since 1999, including irregular salary payments and pension defaults, which have influenced the political landscape and voter behavior.
