Tension Rises in Osun Ahead of August 15 Election

The political tension in Osun State is escalating ahead of the August 15 governorship election, with the Imole Campaign Council and the All Progressives Congress (APC) trading accusations. Governor Ademola Adeleke made remarks during an Accord governorship campaign rally in Olorunda Local Government, appealing to President Bola Tinubu to address rising political tension and insecurity.

The Accord Campaign Council clarified that Adeleke's comments were not an attack on the President but a call for intervention regarding alleged political intimidation. Senator Lere Oyewumi, the Director-General of the Imole Campaign Council, stated that Adeleke urged President Tinubu to ensure a peaceful election and address repression against Osun residents.

The Accord campaign claimed that several members had been killed or injured in politically-related attacks. In contrast, the Osun APC Governorship Campaign Council, led by Wole Oke, dismissed Adeleke's claims as false, accusing him of politicizing security issues and alleging that over 30 of its members had been killed since 2022 by political thugs associated with the ruling Accord administration.
