Lagos State Offers Free Health Insurance in Badagry

The Lagos State Government has initiated a new enrolment drive to provide one-year free health insurance for vulnerable residents in Badagry Division as part of the ILERA EKO health insurance scheme. The two-day EKO Social Health Alliance Community Storm was launched at Posukoh Ward in Badagry, organized by the Lagos State Health Management Agency in collaboration with Health District V and the DIDE Foundation.

Emmanuella Zamba, Permanent Secretary of LASHMA, stated that the scheme is mandatory for all residents, offering access to consultations, treatment for illnesses, maternal healthcare, emergency care, surgeries, and pharmaceutical services. Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has increased the Equity Fund for vulnerable enrolment from N1 billion to N3 billion.

The outreach has enrolled residents in six of Badagry’s ten wards, including the Ojogun community, with plans to continue enrolment in the remaining wards. Local leaders, including Ajose Kumayon and Chief Sulaimon Iroko, praised the initiative for improving healthcare access.
