Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya Elected NBA President

Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya has been elected as the 33rd President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), securing 12,317 votes, which represented 47.18% of the total votes cast. She defeated her closest rival, Lateef Akangb, who received 7,934 votes, and a third candidate, Olumuyiwa Akinboro, who garnered 5,855 votes.

The election, held to fill national office positions for the term 2026-2028, was announced by Aham Ejelam, SAN, at the NBA national secretariat in Abuja on Sunday. The election process experienced delays due to technical challenges, including a cyberattack that affected the electoral committee's ICT infrastructure.

Despite these challenges, the outgoing NBA President, Afam Osigwe, SAN, emphasized the need for unity within the bar and called for support for the new leadership. The election marks a significant milestone as Badejo-Okusanya becomes the second woman to serve as NBA President, following Dame Priscilla Kuy, who held the office from 1991 to 1992.
