Banditry Claims 50 Herders, 200,000 Cattle in Kaduna

The Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), Kaduna State chapter, reported that from January to August 2026, at least 50 of its members were killed, and over 200,000 cattle were lost due to banditry, communal clashes, and cattle rustling. Ibrahim Bayero-Zango, the State Director of Media, presented these findings at a press conference on behalf of the state chairman, Alhaji Abdulhamid Albarka.

The association indicated that the violence stemmed from various sources, including attacks by farmers and banditry during cattle rustling. The losses have severely impacted livestock-owning families, pushing many into poverty.

MACBAN called on the Kaduna State Government to intensify security operations against cattle rustling and regulate livestock markets, particularly the Rijana livestock market in Kachia, to prevent the sale of stolen animals. While commending Governor Uba Sani for his administration's security efforts, MACBAN emphasized ongoing challenges faced by its members in several communities across the state.
