MACBAN Reports 200,000 Cattle Lost to Insecurity in 2026

The Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), specifically its Kaduna State chapter, announced that cattle breeders in the state suffered losses exceeding 200,000 cattle and at least 50 members due to cattle rustling, banditry, and other forms of insecurity between January and September 2026. This information was shared during a press conference in Kaduna, led by State Chairman Alhaji Abdulhamid Musa and spokesman Ibrahim Bayero Zango.

The association indicated that these losses have resulted in severe economic hardship for many pastoralist families, with some losing their entire livelihoods. MACBAN categorized the killings of its members into communal clashes, attacks by farmers, and banditry during cattle rustling.

The association emphasized that cattle are vital for the survival of many generations, and the loss of herds can devastate entire communities. MACBAN urged the Kaduna State Government and security agencies to recognize cattle rustling as a serious threat and to protect law-abiding citizens.

Additionally, concerns were raised about the Rijana livestock market, with calls for thorough investigations into activities there to prevent criminality.
