Cattle Rustlers Kill 50 in Kaduna, Steal 200,000 Cows

The Kaduna State chapter of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), led by chairman Alhaji Abdulhamid Musa, reported that cattle rustlers and related insecurity have resulted in the loss of over 200,000 cows and more than 50 lives since January 2026. Musa disclosed this information during a press briefing addressing the security and livelihood challenges faced by cattle breeders.

He noted that some stolen cattle had been traced and recovered, with instances of recovery occurring as far away as Lagos. The deaths of members were attributed to various causes, including communal clashes, farmer attacks, and banditry.

Musa identified multiple areas in Kaduna State, such as Kachia and Chikun, where significant livestock losses occurred. He called for increased security measures, including joint operations by security agencies and a committee to assess losses and support verified victims.

Musa emphasized the importance of dialogue between farmers and pastoralists to foster peace and economic development, while clarifying that MACBAN does not support criminal activities.
