Bandits Abduct Traditional Ruler and Others in Kwara

Approximately 10 suspected bandits abducted the traditional ruler of Igbesi town and several residents in Isin Local Government Area of Kwara State over the weekend. Iya Ayoka, the first wife of the Baale of Dabu community in Ifelodun Local Government Area, was also kidnapped during this attack.

The abductions occurred despite the recent establishment of a Nigeria Army battalion formation in Omu-Aran town. The victims were taken to an unknown location, and no ransom demands have been made yet.

The situation has heightened fears among residents of Dabu and surrounding areas, leading to urgent calls for intervention from security agencies. Additionally, the bandits are reportedly using the TikTok account of another kidnapping victim, Babatunde Fasilat, to demand a ransom of N20 million for her release.

Fasilat was kidnapped on July 26, 2026, after her father attempted to defend her during the abduction. Senior police officers in the Ifelodun and Isin LGAs confirmed the incidents and stated that the state Police Command has been notified and is taking action.
