Police Repel Bandit Attack in Sokoto, No Casualties Reported

On July 25 at approximately 8:30 p.m., armed bandits attacked Tauma Village in the Bodinga Local Government Area of Sokoto State. The Sokoto State Police Command received a distress call from a resident about the invasion.

DSP Ahmed Rufai, the Command’s spokesperson, reported that the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) mobilized tactical teams, including the Anti-Kidnapping Unit and the Violence Crime Response Unit (VCRU), to confront the attackers. The police engaged the bandits in a gun battle, forcing them to flee into the surrounding forest.

During a subsequent search, officers recovered five rifle magazines containing 40 rounds of live ammunition that the suspects abandoned. The operation was deemed a success, with no casualties reported among residents or security personnel.

Following the incident, police intensified confidence-building patrols in Tauma Village and surrounding areas and placed neighboring police divisions on high alert for suspects seeking medical treatment for gunshot wounds.
