Bandits Kidnap Monarch, Kill Five in Taraba Communities

In the Lau local government area of Taraba state, gunmen suspected to be bandits have resumed kidnapping activities, resulting in the death of five individuals and injuries to several others across various villages. Among the victims was Jauro Tace, the village head of Garin-Magaji, who was kidnapped at gunpoint but later released following ransom payment.

The bandits have taken control of several communities, including Kunini, Jimlari, Garin-Magaji, Donnada, and Garin-Dogo, leading to the displacement of hundreds, particularly among the Fulani population. Many displaced individuals, primarily women and children, have sought refuge in Garin-Dogo, the headquarters of Garin-Dogo ward.

Local residents expressed fear and insecurity, with Mr. Joseph Mustafa stating that no one in Lau can sleep peacefully due to the bandits' activities.

Taraba state governor Agbu Kefas had previously worked to eliminate banditry in the area, raising concerns about the resurgence of such violence. Efforts to reach the chairman of Lau local government, Hon.
