Bandits Kill 23 Farmers in Zamfara Attack

On Wednesday, bandits attacked farmers in Zamfara, resulting in the deaths of 23 individuals. A resident reported that the attackers initially passed through the village around 2:00 p.m. without harming anyone but later returned at approximately 3:00 p.m. to open fire on farmers working in their fields.

The attackers pursued those who attempted to flee, leading to the fatalities. Preparations for a mass burial of the victims were underway for Thursday.

Residents urged Governor Dauda Lawal and the Federal Government to enhance security in the area, warning that continued violence against farmers could lead to a food crisis in Zamfara State. Another resident suggested that the death toll might be as high as 25, indicating ongoing efforts to confirm the exact number of casualties.

Attempts to reach Hon. Yahaya Abubakar Yari, Chairman of Talata Mafara Local Government Area, and DSP Yazid Abubakar, spokesperson for the Zamfara State Police Command, for official comments were unsuccessful.
