Barau Awards Scholarships to Ghanaian Hausa Students

On Sunday, during the 2026 World Hausa Day celebration in Accra, Ghana, Senator Barau Jibrin, the Deputy President of the Senate and First Deputy Speaker of the ECOWAS Parliament, awarded scholarships to two members of the Hausa community in Ghana. This initiative aims to support the study of the Hausa language at the undergraduate or postgraduate level in Nigerian universities.

Barau, accompanied by Senators Abdulazeez Yar’Adua, Muntari Dandutse, and Lawal Adamu Usman, urged African youth to take the lead in preserving their cultural heritage, particularly the Hausa language, to strengthen identity and foster unity. He commended the efforts of Hausa Youth Ghana in promoting Hausa culture and highlighted the contributions of the Hausa community in Ghana to the country's social and economic development.

Barau called for the transmission of indigenous languages to future generations and encouraged young people to combine cultural preservation with education, innovation, and economic empowerment.
