Battery Explosion Causes Fire at Tecno Complex in Ibadan

On June 8, 2026, at approximately 8:15 PM, a battery explosion at the Tecno Complex located at Mokola Roundabout in Ibadan, Oyo State, resulted in a significant fire outbreak. The Oyo State Fire Service Agency received a distress call from Oluyomad Adepeju regarding the incident.

Fire personnel, led by ACF Amoo, promptly mobilized to the scene. Upon arrival, they discovered that a second shop on the upper floor of the commercial building was engulfed in flames, with thick smoke billowing from the premises.

The firefighters swiftly contained and extinguished the fire, preventing it from spreading to adjacent properties. Preliminary investigations indicated that the fire was caused by the ignition of a mobile phone battery near combustible materials.

Fortunately, no casualties were reported during the incident. The firefighting operation concluded at 10:58 PM, and the personnel returned safely to the station.

Moroof Akinwand, the chairman of the Oyo State Fire Service, commended the officers and urged the public to adhere to safety precautions regarding electrical appliances to prevent future incidents.
